This Is for the Misfits, Dreamers, and Originals

Stand out and embrace your difference.

Have you ever felt like you don’t belong in certain places or with certain people? Maybe you even tried so hard to be like others, just so you wouldn’t stand out — because deep down you didn’t want to be the “different one”. Ever since I was young, I felt like I don’t quite fit in. My ideas and views were never the same as everyone else’s. Growing up my journey wasn’t a straight or simple — it was complicated, messy and the opposite of what anyone would call “perfect”. As I got older my way of thinking set me apart even more, I couldn’t relate to many around me, even when I tried to blend in, it always felt forced and unnatural. For a long time, I thought something was wrong with me. But eventually I learnt the truth: not fitting in wasn’t my weakness — it was my superpower. So, this article is for everyone who struggle with the same feeling. Please know that you don’t have to twist yourself to fit into spaces that were never meant for you.

Let’s take my personal favourite, Percy Jackson for instance. A twelve-year-old boy who struggled to fit in, only to later discover he was a demigod, and the son of Poseidon. If Percy had fit in from the start we would have been robbed of incredible story telling filled with monsters, mystery, magic and gods. Think about it: in every story we watch, we fall in love with the main character because they stand out. They are unique. They’re different. That’s what makes them unforgettable. So, why do you want to shrink yourself just to blend in? the society teaches us that belonging is blending in, but that’s just not true. When you strip away everything that makes you, who you are in order be “normal”, you’re not being true to yourself. And honestly? Being “normal” is pretty boring anyway. When you shrink to match the space society gives you, you also shrink your dreams, your voice and your uniqueness. The truth is not all of us are here to just see and follow the map. Some of us are here to draw it.

Remember — there’s always a reason why you don’t fit in. If you notice these signs, it’s because you are not meant to play small:

Your dreams feel too much for the space you’re in, because you think bigger than your surroundings.

Shallow conversations bore you and drain you; you crave depth and meaning.

You outgrow people and place quickly —not because you’re ungrateful but because you’re evolving.

You notice subtle details, most people overlook.

You choose discomfort over comfort, knowing growth lives there.

When someone calls you “too much” or “too different” you wear it as a compliment.

You feel most alive when you’re being your truest self.

If these resonate with you, trust me it’s not a flaw, it’s a gentle nudge from the universe reminding you, that you’re here to create not to comply.

your ideas maybe “too big” for other people, but that doesn’t mean you’re wrong. You don’t have to be more realistic or tone yourself down. You don’t need to fit in. The very traits that made me stood out awkwardly back then, are now the ones that help me create, step out of my comfort zone, and live the life I always wanted. I always had a lot of thoughts and opinions, I catch subtle remarks others miss — and instead of keeping it all inside, now I share what I feel, just like I am doing in this article. The moment I embraced who I truly am, I stopped trying to fit in — and started belonging to myself.

It’s always those who are different that bring change to the world. Remember you are here for greater things. Of course, you will stand part if you choose creativity and growth over petty gossip. You are the kind to ask “why” and “could we do this better way” — the kind who disrupts comfort zones. Not everyone will like you for that and that’s okay. You were meant to lead, not blindly follow. Own who you are, unapologetically. The world doesn’t need another copy — it needs your originality, your vision, your perspective and your energy. You’re not here to be in anyone’s story, you’re here to write your own.
