Aura Speaks, a Ted Talk like engaging, thought-provoking, empowering speaking event by the differently abled is coming up in Chennai on the 16th of July. The organisors, Able Aura Foundation says they are launching this to amplify inspiring stories of high achievers among the differently abled that often go untold and unheard. The first of its kind event aims to celebrate the resilience, creativity, and diversity of the differently abled.

The line up of speakers is impressive. Handpicked from different walks of life, they display inspiration, grit, determination and courage. The nine speakers include Ira Singhal, India’s first differently abled to top the Civil Service Examination and Shams Alam the record holder for longest open sea swimming by a paraplegic person. 27 million people in India are differently abled. Able Aura says it’s creating an inclusive, safe space for the members of the differently abled community to share their stories and inspire others to overcome their own challenges and achieve their dreams. “We are very excited for the launch of our new initiative, Aura Speaks, the first of its kind platform for persons with disabilities to share their stories for the world to understand disability and inclusion. We have many eminent speakers coming down to Chennai on the 16th of July to share their stories and bring out the true essence of inclusion to the world” Hethal Solanki, Associate Director of Able Aura Foundation told tellmystory.in

Touted to be India’s largest ecosystem for the differently abled, Able Aura offers  equal opportunity for people with disabilities in the fields of sports, education, health, travel, tourism, and social life. As a flagship programme, they arrange tours for the differently abled to explore and experience leisure travel like any other normal person. “We realise that it is not possible for persons with disabilities to access tourist points most of the time, which is why we provide accessible tourism where we arrange all the volunteer work and accommodation facilities required”. Hethal added “We also run an academy for children with disabilities where we teach them paralympic sports with the vision of having them represent India at the paralympic level” .
