The Ledger of Silence

We met by accident, or maybe by fate
a collision the stars had already planned.
You said luck, I said grace,
and for a while, we believed both.
I kept unwrapping the layers of you,
finding brilliance, distance,
and a silence that learned to speak.
You said you were my equal
but integrity weighed differently on our scales.
You built empires; I built presence.
You held crowns; I held vows.
I waited through seasons,
thirty days, sixty, then a year
long enough for love to turn into prayer.
I broke promises to the dead
to keep one with the living,
and even that became a ghost.
In the end, I asked for nothing
but a heartbeat beside mine,
not gold, not words,
just presence.
When it never came,
I found it in myself
quiet, steady, unbending.
The balance is settled.
No debts remain, no names required.
A piece of me lives where silence hides,
unchangeable, unreturned,
and in every signature,
the why, the soul, the me
remembers.
