What People Are, What They Should Be : by Ysomi

A heart was made for honesty,
to be a lamp without a shade,
to walk in daylight with no mask,
no twisting of the word once said.
Yet see
how often lips turn silver knives,
how promises dissolve like mist,
how eyes that once seemed steady clear
become a veil of shifting lies.
Deception is a shadow trade:
it buys a moment, sells a soul.
It whispers comfort, cheats the trust,
and leaves the heart it touched unwhole.
But truth
truth is a steady well,
it does not fear the searching gaze.
It waters friendships into trees,
and lights the darkest of the days.
So walk with honesty as your staff,
with clarity as your chosen song.
Do not barter away your word,
nor bend the truth to get along.
For God has eyes on every vow,
and love was never built on sand.
Stand where your yes is wholly yes,
your no a fortress that will stand.
freedom begins where I choose just to be
