Chennai Airport Joins Simultaneous Double Take-offs Club
If you are a regular traveller from Chennai airport chances are you’d witness two aeroplanes taking off simultaneously. This new operation would reduce delays in departures and increase the airports overall flight handling.
The airport has kick started simultaneous take offs from two divergent runways. While one of them RWY30 would be exclusively for departures, the other RWY25 will handle both take offs and landings.Â
Speaking to tellmystory.in Mr Mohamed Shahid K, General Manager, ATM said “This will achieve on time performance of all flights departing to northern part of India including Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad”. He added “This would mean our hourly flights at Chennai airport would increase to 55 from 36”.
Air passengers are excited. Kavitha Sekar, a frequent traveller said “I am so happy about this”. Saju, a young travel enthusiast added “I have seen such videos. Now I want to go the nearby St Thomas Mount top and experience the spectacle myself”.
Airport authorities say they loved the process to put in place a protocol for this and to get the nod from the Directorate of Civil Aviation.Â
