Mika, a German Shepherd puppy inducted into the Streetsboro Police Department in the US has brought to light an incredible story of bonding her biological dad had with a late police officer fifteen years ago.

The eight week old puppy’s story dates back twenty years ago when Mika’s biological father Bagio was assigned to Josh Miktarian, a brave Police Officer who loved him so much and had an incredible bonding with the canine colleague. Wanting to have Bagio for another generation he had even got the German Shepherd’s sperm preserved with the help of an Animal Clinic. Joshua unfortunately lost his life in the line of duty in 2008 and consequently Bagio was retired to stay with Miktarian’s family.

Finally 15 years after the death of officer Miktarian, his dream of his K9 partner’s legacy continuing in the law enforcement department has come to fruition. The Miktarian’s family dog Naala gave birth to 6 healthy puppies on May 23rd by virtue of artificial insemination. Holly and Thea, the officer’s widow and daughter  donated Mika  to Streetsboro Police Department after she passed the test, just like Josh would have wanted. “I know Josh would be very proud of having one of Bagio’s ‘kids’ making a difference in your community.” Holly stated proudly.

Mika, the 8 week old German Shepherd is to begin training in the Halo K9 Training Academy in the upcoming months after which she will be partnered with Officer Luke Nelson. Kaya and Reno, two other K9s will also be there to help and guide her along her journey in serving the community.

“Mika has big paws to fill but carries the legacy of her father with her. The members of Streetsboro PD are excited to have the opportunity to keep this connection to the past while moving forward to the future”, the Streetsboro PD announced on their Facebook page. The police have also added Mika’s siblings too “have handpicked amazing homes they are going into”.
