The Courtesy of Hearts

I smiled through the ache,
pretending the silence was kind but inside,
a thousand unspoken words tremble.
I gave my heart, my trust,
my life’s small treasures
all I asked in return
was a simple truth.
If you cannot stay,
say so..
I will bow to the wind
and let you go in peace.
If you wish me to wait,
say so
and I will hold the days gently,
not in doubt,
but in quiet faith.
Life is not long.
We are here only once,
and kindness is our only crown.
So do not leave me guessing
for what we shared was real.
Let us part or remainwith the courtesy
that makes this short life beautiful.
