We all love to watch movies and read stories which have a strong main character. We root for them, and believe that they will win in the end. We laugh with them when they succeed, cry when they fall, and shed tears of joy when they get their happy ending. We admire the main character a lot–in fact we watch the story for them. Now here’s some news for you: you are the main character of your story. And not only that you’re also the author. So why not a write a beautiful story for yourself, exactly the way you want? I know you might feel confused or have lot of questions, don’t worry–it’s my pleasure to answer them.

To be the main lead of your story you don’t need to be dramatic or pretend be someone you’re not. In fact, it’s quite the opposite actually.  You just have to be your authentic self, and move through life with confidence. Start by making your own choices. The main character never lets anyone dictate how they should live their life. Follow your heart and do what makes you happy and fulfilled. Romanticize your life and start enjoying it–whether it is cooking a meal for yourself, heading to the grocery store, buying new books, watching your favourite Netflix shows, or simply sipping a cup of coffee. Be grateful for the little things, and stay present in the moment so you can fully feel them. This calms your mind, relaxes your body, and gives you clarity to make wise decisions and feel good about your life.

Most importantly protect your energy and time. The main character never lets the extras ruin their story–they own it. And that is precisely what you need to do. Don’t let other’s opinions or judgements hinder your dreams and goals. Focus on doing what you love, because when you try to see your life through everyone else’s lens, you forget to actually live. A main character does not people-please. So never hold back from sharing your opinions and being who you truly are, just to seek approval. Embrace your flaws–No one is perfect. Quit worrying about what you lack, and instead, pay attention to what you’re good at. Nurture that and grow from it. Learn from your mistakes instead of letting them define you. Show up every time with confidence, and if you are scared? Do it scared. Ditch the victim mentality–it will never serve you. Main characters do not let the outside circumstances control their narrative. The “why does it only happen to me” mindset, will only hold you back. It makes you see problems instead of opportunities. Lastly don’t tone down your unique ideas and your vision just to fit in. You weren’t meant to blend in–you were born to stand out.

When you act like the main character of your story, your focus naturally shifts on you. Your energy, time and attention are invested in your dreams and goals, which helps you stay grounded and less distracted. We live in a world where it is easy to get carried away by other’s words and actions. But when you truly own your story and love yourself for who you are, you unlock the best version of yourself.

The pen is in your hand, so write your story–and own every word of it.
