Chennai Youth Rock At United Nations, Tackle Global Challenges

Thirty students from classes six, seven and eight at Aachi Global School donned the role of delegates representing fifteen countries as their campus hosted it’s first edition of Junior Model United Nations.

The students discussed key issues of the countries they represented from education, unemployment, suicides, refugee crisis, climate change among others. They exchanged notes, offered suggestions and attempted to find solutions to global challenges. “I focussed on unemployment and poverty as these are key issues in India” said Devkrish Kuduvan Jeevanandan, a student who represented India. Renoshah S added “We’ve learnt to solve world problems at such a young age”.

It took around a month of research and hard work for these students to study, collect information including data to deliberate on issues of foreign countries and to make their presentations crisp to adhere to the allotted time. Aden Shaffiq a student said “It was a good collaboration. I looked for data”. Harini Bharani who represented Spain with her partner Shreedevi K added “I felt like an actual Delegate participating. That made me happy”.

For the Head Chair, General Secretary and the President who conducted the session it was a challenge, but the team did it with aplomb. Dargini D G, the Faculty who teaches Global Perspectives said “Each team was given one country and they delved deeper. It was completely a student work and I am happy the way they performed”.
