Chennai’s Twin Art Prodigies: Nine-Year-Old Brothers Painting Their Way to Big Dreams

In a quiet lane in Chennai’s Besant Nagar, two nine-year-old twins — Navneeth Sai and Navpreeth Sai — are quickly emerging as little stars in the world of art. Self-taught and gifted, the Class IV boys have already created around 25 drawings, at least 15 of which their parents and mentors say show remarkable promise for their age.
What began as the simple joy of sketching cartoons and deities has now grown into a deeper passion.
“I love drawing animation, like cartoons. It gives me happiness,” Navneeth told tellmystory.in, his enthusiasm unmistakable. His brother Navpreeth adds, “This makes me creative. I love it.”
Their mother, Nalini Gopu, recalls how the boys began drawing entirely on their own. “They just started on their own and sometimes they watch YouTube and learn,” she says, smiling at how their interests have flourished. Seeing their talent develop, their parents enrolled them in art classes to learn oil pastel techniques — a move that has already begun to pay off.
Earlier this month, Navpreeth Sai won a Shield Award at the VI National Level Painting Competition hosted by the Puducherry Art Academy through The Talent Trio Hub, a recognition that has encouraged the family even more.
But the twins’ dreams don’t end with art. Despite their growing talent, both harbour another strong aspiration: to serve the nation. “We want to protect India,” they say earnestly, explaining their dream of joining the military one day.
Interestingly, the brothers study in two different Kendriya Vidyalayas — Navneeth at PM Shri KV Gill Nagar and Navpreeth at PM Shri KV CLRI Adyar — but their bond and shared passions remain strong.
For parents Gokul and Nalini, watching the boys blossom — both as artists and as children with discipline and ambition — has been deeply fulfilling. “We are nurturing their dreams and we would love them to follow their passion,” Nalini says.
As the twins continue to fill their sketchbooks and sharpen their skills, Besant Nagar may well be home to two future painters — or two soldiers — or perhaps both. Either way, Navneeth and Navpreeth Sai are growing up with heart, talent and purpose, and their story is only beginning to unfold.
