Family of Srinivasan, Manager, Accounts cheer as biryani boxes arrive home.

It was a pleasant surprise for Sharmila Suzan when the company her husband S Muralikrishnan works for sent biryani for all ten members of her joint family on Saturday.

After working from home for six months since the second wave struck, the Chennai based Covenant Group, a HR recruitment company would reopen offices in November and the biryani treat is to thank all families of it’s 300 strong team for taking good care of it’s employees.

Susan told tellmystory.in “So thoughtful of them. We are touched. All of us loved it“. On what kind of hardship did the large family face as Murali worked from home, she said “Ours is a four bedroom house with ten people including four children. Murali turned our bedroom into his office and it impacted me and our children as everyone needed space to attend work or classes“.

In his 17th year with the company Muralikrishnan added “This gesture is very special for me though the company has  given biryani to employees in the past“.

Ashitha Anish, wife of Anish Chandran, Assistant Vice President, Admin said “Its  awesome“.

Covenant Group says it managed to save all jobs without any salary cut over the last two waves. The company sent around 1300 biryani boxes in Chennai and few other cities. On the idea behind this, Joshua Madan, the CEO said “At Covenant,we follow an employees first policy and its super important to have the support of families – both for the organisation to grow and also for all employees to feel a sense of belonging that they are an integral part of the company“.

The pandemic triggered long disruption in work culture due to lockdown restrictions had forced many in the IT and IT enabled industry to shift to their hometowns and worked remotely.  Many young professionals had even vacated their rented homes or accomodation. Joshua  added “It also greatly helps retention during this time when attrition levels are very high in  industries like Technology,Banking and ITES“.
